Rabbi Karen is excited to return to Camp Yavneh this summer! She attended Yavneh as a camper, counselor and Rosh Aydah from 1987-1996. Rabbi Karen currently serves as Co-Rabbi and Co-Educator along with her husband, Rabbi Micah, at Temple Beth David in Westwood, MA. As Yavneh shaped her Jewish identity, Karen looks forward to teaching and engaging the next generation. Karen will be joined at camp by Micah and their twin sons, Itai and Yonah. We recently asked Karen a few questions about Camp Yavneh and she was nice enough to share her thoughts:
Favorite memory of camp: “One of my favorite memories of Yavneh is relaxing in a canoe or funyak on the agam. I loved learning to boat and becoming rosh shayit. But what has stayed with me to this day is Zimriyah, and the deep love of Jewish culture and community.”
Helpful tip for new (and returning) campers: ״Be open to meeting new people and learning about different ways to be Jewish.״
What are you looking forward to this summer: ״I am looking forward to being at camp with my family, introducing my children to the Yavneh experience, reconnecting with people from my past and meeting new staff and colleagues. I look forward to helping shape meaningful and fun Jewish learning for campers. And, I hope to enjoy a few relaxing moments on a boat at the agam!״
